Oh jag älskar Malmö!

After living all my life in Helsinki I randomly moved to Malmö at the age of 20. Although Sweden is almost like Finland, it's not. And Malmö is definitely not like any other city in Sweden or in Finland. It's more continent, more European, more multicultural.

I studied in Malmö for 3 years, and did my studies in Swedish. Still, more than half of the people in my class where originally from somewhere else than Sweden, or at least their parents were. For a girl like me whose friends had always been Finns with similar kind of background as mine, it was a huge change to suddenly get to know people who came from all over the world. Studying International Relations with people who had actually escaped from the conflicts and the wars that we were just learning about gave me a whole different perspective on life.

Though I knew no one in Malmö when I moved there, I got bunch of good friends straight in the beginning. They were just so welcoming and nice, maybe partly because they knew how it feels to come to a new country without knowing anyone there and without knowing the language properly.

Now it's been 4 years since I moved out from Malmö but I still have these "fina vänner" in my life.
Last month I gave them a visit.
